This piece is based on a memory from a league baseball game, in which I was put in a situation where I could win the game and fell flat. Over the years I have developed an understanding of failure as an inevitable and very important part of life. However, I felt this moment in particular deserved recognition because it is served as the first instance of impactful failure that I could recall. Although I didnt realize it until much later, failure is a catalyst for self-discovery and should be remembered--arguably more so than success. The sculpture is rendered in an off-balanced, yet still upright position that is meant to highlight the importance of acceptance and standing tall in our defeats. We all fail at something at some point, but our retaliation is the true indicator of our resolve.
